Mount Hiko

We went to Mount Hiko on the border between Fukuoka and Oita prefectures. There are hundreds and hundreds of rather high stone steps along the first part of the hike, but Moyo climbed them all on her own. Of course I then had to carry her much of the way down.

Mount Hiko

I like Hiko for its broad trails and open forest of old cedars. There is also quite a nice shrine near its base.

Omuta Zoo

05 May was Children's Day in Japan, so we stayed home to avoid the worst of the crowds, but the next day we went to visit Grandma for a little while, and then headed on down to Omuta to the zoo. It was our first time. Omuta has a pleasant little zoo that allows some direct contact with the animals. Moyo was really fascinated by this ball python, and I guess the wrangler realized that, as she suddenly set it on Moyo's shoulders. Afterwards, Moyo raved about how much she loves snakes.

Omuta Zoo

Moyo fed the giraffe some leaves...

Then we visited the small amusement park inside the grounds of the zoo.

Moyo enjoyed the merry-go-round so much that she went a second time, and this time Kayomi accompanied her.
